postheadericon How To Start A Internet Business – Business Plan Required

Guest post by Rob Stone

There are many of us who would like to move away from our day jobs, the stress of dealing with the office politics and take up running a business of our own and be our own boss.

Many do not even attempt to go into this direct as it can feel very overwhelming, daunting and scary but at the same time very exciting. The trouble is many of us who take the big step and look to goto into business do so without any planning thinking…ah if this person can do it, that company can do it then why can’t i?

This is true as anyone can start a business but planning is very important otherwise you can land yourself in all sorts of trouble both financially as well as in reputation with suppliers and customers. A good way to start a business used to be to open an Ebay account and look to find items to sell from wholesalers but this has come to be extremely competitive so may be good for some categories but not so for others.

When looking to go online to sell items via the internet it is always strongly advised to have a business plan. If you do not have any experience of drawing up a business plan then do find someone who has or can at least share some pointers. A business plan can show on paper the figures for your up and coming business before spending any more or taking any money from sales. Without one, you can spiral out of control very easy and land yourself in a great deal of debt.

An example here can show how easy it is to have things get out of control very easily.

Gadgets are very popular and age ranges vary a great deal. Someone who is looking to sell gadgets online would maybe open an Ebay account once they have found a supplier or a range of gadgets to sell online. This may cost anything from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars depending on the quality and quantity of the purchase.

The new retailer places each item online at a price dictated to by Ebay and waits for sales to come in. They make sales and send of the items to customers, then come a weeks time purchased another box of gadgets but has a handful left over from their previous supplier delivery. This means you have a number of dollars in stock and not in the bank.

You will most certainly have a number of items that have not sold on the first Ebay listing so need placing again on either bidding or Buy It Now which most of have heard of. This obviously has additional costs so needs to be taken into consideration on your business finances.

You have now gone into the direction of a possible loss if you need to list then item or items several times. Before you know it, you have spend hundreds of dollars in stock, Ebay and Paypal fees and then purchased more stock so now possible in the red or in debt whichever you would like to call it.

This is where a Business Plan is vital to the success of your business to make way for this kind of occurrence and to see ways to budget and still make a profit.

Do you still want to go into business?
